Welcome to Easter Monday Morning prayer from the Anglican ‘A prayer book for Australia’.
Heavenly God,
At the dawn of another new Easter Monday, we awake to new beginnings:
We still remember how through our past ancestors we hurt you, we knew not what we did;
We still remember how through our past ancestors we took away your life too early, we knew not what we did;
We still remember how through our past ancestors, we acted in fear and not in courage, we knew not what we did;
Jesus Christ, our love for you and our sorrow at our past ways shows in today’s actions of courage and love in your name, we beseech you to accept our apologetic remembrance for all that we have done.
We rise to meet you where you dwell; in peace, in justice, in hope, in love and in forgiveness, in your name Lord Jesus we rise.
Amen
We proclaim the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ:
GOD in his infinite mercy, forgives all sins, and through our baptism in the name of our Saviour, Jesus Christ, we are given a rebirth into new life, free from the burden of all sin. ALLELUIA
With faithfulness we respond to the good news:
We acknowledge Christ as our saviour and accept with gratitude, that we are forgiven for all wrong doings, past and present. To honour the gift of forgiveness, we release our burden of guilt and go forth participating in conduct that brings our best self to each and every day forever more.
Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Blessed be God forever.
Let us Pray.

1
God’s love has been poured into our hearts,
through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
Romans 5.5

Glory to God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit:
as in the beginning, so now, and for ever. Amen.

2 The Opening Canticle, A Song of God’s Marvellous Acts
I will sing a new hymn to my God: O Lord you are great and marvellous, you are marvellous in your strength, invincible. Let the whole creation serve you: for you spoke and all things came to be; You sent out your Spirit and it formed them: no one can resist your voice. Mountains and seas are stirred to their depths: rocks melt like wax at your presence; But to those who revere you: you still show mercy.
Judith 16.13–15

3 The Opening Prayer
The night has passed and the day lies open before us;
let us pray with one heart and mind.

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord: my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour, Who has looked with favour on his lowly servant: from this day all generations will call me blessed; The Almighty has done great things for me: and holy is his name. God has mercy on those who fear him: from generation to generation. The Lord has shown strength with his arm: and scattered the proud in their conceit, Casting down the mighty from their thrones: and lifting up the lowly. God has filled the hungry with good things: and sent the rich away empty. He has come to the aid of his servant Israel: to remember the promise of mercy, The promise made to our forebears: to Abraham and his children for ever.
Luke 1.47–55

10 The Collect of the Day
Easter Day
Brightness of God’s glory,
whom death could not conquer nor the tomb imprison:
as you have shared our frailty in human flesh,
help us to share your immortality in the Spirit;
let no shadow of the grave terrify us,
and no fear of darkness turn our hearts from you.
Reveal yourself to us this day and all our days,
as the First and the Last,
the Living One,
our immortal Saviour and Lord. Amen.
Easter Evening
Holy God,
whose risen Son opened the disciples’ hearts
to understand the Scriptures
that told of his death and resurrection:
grant us the peace of the living Lord,
that our eyes may be opened
to recognise him in the breaking of the bread,
and to follow him wherever he leads;
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

O God,
whose presence is veiled from our eyes:
grant that when we do not recognise you
our hearts may burn within us,
and when feeling is lost
we may cling in faith to your word
and to the breaking of the bread;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayer of the Week
Sunday
Almighty God,

6 One or two Readings from the Bible as appointed.

1st Reading
Genesis 2.1-3
1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all their multitude. 2 And on the seventh day God finished the work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all the work that he had done. 3 So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all the work that he had done in creation.
2nd Reading
Hebrews 4.1-11
1 Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest is still open, let us take care that none of you should seem to have failed to reach it. 2 For indeed the good news came to us just as to them; but the message they heard did not benefit them, because they were not united by faith with those who listened. 3 For we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said,‘As in my anger I swore,“They shall not enter my rest” ’,though his works were finished at the foundation of the world. 4 For in one place it speaks about the seventh day as follows: ‘And God rested on the seventh day from all his works.’ 5 And again in this place it says, ‘They shall not enter my rest.’ 6 Since therefore it remains open for some to enter it, and those who formerly received the good news failed to enter because of disobedience, 7 again he sets a certain day—‘today’—saying through David much later, in the words already quoted,‘Today, if you hear his voice,do not harden your hearts.’ 8 For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not speak later about another day. 9 So then, a sabbath rest still remains for the people of God; 10 for those who enter God’s rest also cease from their labours as God did from his. 11 Let us therefore make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one may fall through such disobedience as theirs.

The readings may be followed by a period of silence for reflection, a hymn or
May your word live in us
and bear much fruit to your glory.

7 The Canticle, A Song of Redemption
Christ is the image of the invisible God: the first-born of all creation. For in him all things were created: in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible. All things were created through him and for him: he is before all things and in him all things hold together. He is the head of the body, the Church: he is the beginning, the first-born from the dead. For it pleased God that in him all fullness should dwell: and through him all things be reconciled to himself.
Colossians 1.15–20

8 The Apostles’ Creed may be said.
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body,

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever. Amen.

who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Good Friday Morning prayer from the Anglican ‘A prayer book for Australia’.
Christians across the world observe Good Friday as the day when Jesus Christ died on the cross for humanity, so that he could save them from their sins. Good Friday is the Friday before Easter, it is a day Christians humbly honour the sacrifice Jesus suffered and how he died for their sins.

2 The Opening Canticle, A Song of God’s Grace
We have complete freedom: to go into the most holy place by means of the death of Jesus. He opened for us a new way, a living way: through the curtain, through his own body. Since we have a great high priest set over the household of God: let us draw near with a sincere heart and a sure faith, With hearts that have been made clean from a guilty conscience: and bodies washed with pure water.
Hebrews 10.19–22

let us pray with one heart and mind.

Jesus, Saviour of the world, come to us in your mercy: we look to you to save and help us. By your cross and your life laid down, you set your people free: we look to you to save and help us. When they were ready to perish, you saved your disciples: we look to you to come to our help. In the greatness of your mercy, loose us from our chains: forgive the sins of all your people. Make yourself known as our saviour and mighty deliverer: save and help us that we may praise you. Come now and dwell with us, Lord Christ Jesus: hear our prayer and be with us always. And when you come in your glory: make us to be one with you
and to share the life of your kingdom.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

9 The Prayers
Lord have mercy.
Christ have mercy.
Lord have mercy.

10 The Lord’s Prayer and the Collect of the Day
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever. Amen.

Good Friday
Lord God,
whose blessed Son our Saviour gave his back to the smiters
and did not hide his face from shame:
give us grace to accept the sufferings of this present time
with sure confidence in the glory that shall be revealed;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
or
Merciful God,
who gave your Son to suffer the shame of the cross:
save us from hardness of heart,
that, seeing him who died for us,
we may repent, confess our sin,
and receive your overflowing love,
in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
or
The first prayer, or all three prayers, based on the Book of Common Prayer
Almighty God,
look with mercy on this your family,
for whom our Lord Jesus Christ was willing to be betrayed
and to be given into the hands of sinners
and to suffer death upon the cross;
who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God for ever and ever. Amen.

Almighty and everlasting God,
by whose Spirit the whole body of the Church is
governed and sanctified:
receive our prayers and supplications,
which we offer before you for all people in your holy Church,
that all its members,
in their vocation and ministry,
may truly and godly serve you;
through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

O merciful God,
you have made all people
and you hate nothing that you have made,
nor desire the death of sinners,
but rather that they should turn and live:
have mercy on all who have not known you,
or who deny the faith of Christ crucified;
take from them all ignorance, hardness of heart,
and contempt of your word;
and so fetch them home, blessed Lord, to your fold,
that we may be made one flock under one shepherd,
Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
 one God, world without end. Amen.

10 Intercessions and Thanksgivings may be made according to local custom and need.Let us pray

O God, Son of God, you suffered for us, the righteous for the unrighteous. You Saved us by the shame of your Passion. Through the suffering and death you did not deserve, we have escaped the punishment our sins have deserved. We thank you Lord Jesus. Amen

Lord Jesus, so often we forget everything you have done for us as we go about our days. We can never say thank you enough for your sacrifice on the cross. Lord, you have sanctified this day and endowed it with divine grace, we thank you with the entirety of our spirit and Soul for evermore. We thank you Lord Jesus, Amen

Welcome to Thursday Morning prayer from the Anglican ‘A prayer book for Australia’.
Amen.
Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Blessed be God forever.
Let us Pray.

1
This is the message we have heard from Christ:
That God is light, in whom there is no darkness at all.

Glory to God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit:
as in the beginning, so now, and for ever. Amen.

2 The Opening Canticle, A Song of God’s Grace
Go up to a high mountain
Herald of good tidings to Zion:
Lift up your voice with strength,
Herald of good tidings to Jerusalem.
Lift up your voice, fear not:
Say to the cities of Judah, ‘Behold your God!’
See the Lord God coming with power:
Coming to rule with his mighty arm.
He brings his reward for the people of God:
the recompense for those who are saved.
God will feed his flock like a shepherd:
And gather the lambs in his arms;
He will hold them to his breast:
And gently lead those that are with young.
Isaiah 40.9-11

The night has now passed and the day lies open before us;
let us pray with one heart and mind.

5 At the end of the (last) pause there may follow
Almighty God, who wonderfully created us in your own image and yet more wonderfully restored us in your son Jesus Christ: grant that as he came to share our human nature so we may be partakers in his divine glory; who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever.
Amen.

1st Reading
2nd Reading

The readings may be followed by a period of silence for reflection, a hymn or
May your word live in us
and bear much fruit to your glory.

7 The Canticle,
In the beginning was the word:
 and the word was with God,
 and the word was god:
 he was in the beginning with god.
 all things were made through him:
 and without him, was not anything made that was made.
In him was life:
And the life was the light of all the people.
The light shines in the darkness:
And the darkness has not overcome it.
He was in the world:
And the world was made through him
 yet the world knew him not.
 he came to his own home:
and his own people received him not.
but to all who received him who believed on his name:
He has given power to become children of God;
who were born not of blood
nor of the will of the flesh:
nor of the will of a man but of God.
And the word became flesh
And dwelt among us full of grace and truth;
we have beheld his glory:
 glory as of the only son from the father
and from his fullness have we all received:
And grace upon grace.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body,

as in the beginning, so now, and for ever.

And gather the lambs in his arms;
He will hold them to his breast:
And gently lead those that are with young.
Isaiah 40.9-11

3 The Opening Prayer
The night has now passed and the day lies open before us;
let us pray with one heart and mind.

Silence may be kept.
As we rejoice in the gift of this new day, so may the light of your presence, O God, set our hearts on fire with love for you; now and for ever.
Amen.

Psalm

5 At the end of the (last) pause there may follow
Almighty God, who wonderfully created us in your own image and yet more wonderfully restored us in your son Jesus Christ: grant that as he came to share our human nature so we may be partakers in his divine glory; who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever.
Amen.

6 One or two Readings from the Bible as appointed.

1st Reading

He has given power to become children of God;
who were born not of blood
nor of the will of the flesh:
nor of the will of a man but of God.
And the word became flesh
And dwelt among us full of grace and truth;
we have beheld his glory:
 glory as of the only son from the father
and from his fullness have we all received:
And grace upon grace.

8 The Apostles’ Creed may be said.

according to the purpose of your will,
to the praise of your glorious grace:
which you freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.

we claim you as Lord.
All creation worships you:
The Father everlasting.
To you all angels, all the powers of heaven:
The cherubim and serafim sing in endless praise:
Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of power and might:
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
The glorious company of apostles praise you:
The noble fellowship of prophets praise you.
The white robed army of martyrs praise you:
Throughout the world the holy church acclaims you;
Father of majesty unbounded:
Your true and only son, worthy of all praise,
the Holy Spirit, advocate and guide.
You, Christ, are the king of glory,
the eternal son of the father.
When you took our flesh to set us free:
You humbly chose the virgin's womb.
You overcame the sting of death:

Short Homily
Today’s reading includes human encounter of breaking the law of marriage, a visit by a holy spirit, and a choice of whether to expose or believe and obey.

Joseph states he is ready to expose Mary’s supposed adultery, until visited by a holy spirt where he is told to protect her pregnancy and that he is responsible for the all-important naming of the baby. Joseph has a decision; does he trust in the invisible God’s representative or follow man’s rules and regulations and report Mary for perceived adultery. Luckily for us he heeds the Holy Spirit’s word’s, otherwise we might have a very different story to tell at Christmas.

We are grateful that Joseph’s decision making was full of faith and so brought our saviour into our world in a way that we can be proud of and celebrate each day.

Strengthening our trust in God when he asks us to follow a different path, using faithfulness to respond to His requests in spite of the cultural rules and regulations that try to command our behaviour, is a way that we can draw near and seek out God in places we might not have looked.

Let us pause for a moment to reflect.
The Nicene Creed
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father.  Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit, he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.  On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.  He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Prayers
Let us pray for the world and for the church.
We give you thanks for opening our eyes to witness your hand at work in the gifts that surround us. Thank you for your continued love and blessings in abundance throughout our lives. Bless us with your generous nature good Lord, as we answer your call to minister to your will. Guide us to walk before you in faithfulness, in righteousness and in upright honour towards you.
Lord in Your Mercy.      Receive our Prayer
We pray for your blessing of peace on those parts of our world where there is war. Give all your servants an understanding mind able to recognise between good and evil. Give us all wise and discerning minds, that we might know how to honour you all our life.

Lord in Your Mercy.      Receive our Prayer
We pray thanks that with your guidance we live in your light and go out of our way to help others who are less fortunate. We pray that through our reverence in the name of Christ, we become new and maintain our light even when surrounded by darkness.

Through your Son Jesus Christ, you have shown us the way to live and breathe in your righteousness. Give us the strength to remain in your presence in all we do. Help us to accept that not all goes our way, remind us to be willing advocates of your work, guiding our actions to a better life for all.
Lord in Your Mercy.      Receive our Prayer
We pause for a moment for you to pray for your own petitions.
Almighty God you have promised to hear our prayers.
Grant that what we have asked in faith
 we may by your grace receive,
through Jesus Christ our lord. Amen

We are the body of Christ.
His spirit is with us.

The peace of the lord be always with you
And also, with you.

Let us all exchange a sign of peace.

Preparation for the Lord’s Supper
We do not presume to come to your table, merciful Lord,trusting in our own righteousness,but in your manifold and great mercies.
We are not worthyso much as to gather up the crumbs under your table.But you are the same Lordwhose nature is always to have mercy.Grant us, therefore gracious Lord,so to eat the flesh of your dear Son Jesus Christ,and to drink his blood,that we may evermore dwell in him,and he is us. Amen.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give Him thanks and praise.
All glory and honour be yours always and everywhere mighty creator ever living God. We give you thanks and praise for our saviour Jesus Christ who by the power of your spirit was born of Mary and lived as one of us. By his death on the cross and rising to new life he offered the one true sacrifice for sin and obtained an eternal deliverance for his people.
Therefore, with angels and archangels, and with the whole company of heaven, we proclaim your great and glorious name, forever praising you, and saying:
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, Heaven and earth are full of your glory.  Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he that comes in the name of the LORD. Hosanna in the highest.
Merciful God we thank you for these gifts of your creation this bread and wine and we pray that by your word and Holy Spirit we who eat and drink them may be partakers of Christ body and blood.
On the night he was betrayed Jesus took bread and when he had given you thanks he broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take eat this is my body given for you do this in remembrance of me.
After supper he took the cup and again giving you thanks he gave it to his disciples saying drink from this all of you this is my blood of the new covenant shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this as often as you drink it in remembrance of me.

Christ has died;
Christ is risen;
Christ will come again.
Therefore, we do as our saviour has commanded proclaiming his offering of himself made once for all upon the cross his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension and looking for his coming again we celebrate with this bread and this cup his one perfect and sufficient sacrifice for the sins of the whole world.
Renew us by your Holy Spirit unite us in the body of your son and bring us with all your people into the joy of your eternal Kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord with whom and in whom in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit we worship you father in songs of never ending praise.

Blessing and honour and glory and power are yours for ever and ever.  Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer
As our saviour Christ has taught us, we are confident to pray,
Our Father in heaven,hallowed be your Nameyour kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.
We break this bread to share in the body of Christ.
We who are many are one body, for we all share in the one bread.
Jesus Lamb of God, have mercy on us.
Jesus bearer of our sins, have mercy on us.
Jesus redeemer of the world, grant us your peace.
The gifts of God for the people of God.
Come, let us take this holy sacrament of the body and blood of Christ in remembrance that He died for us, and feed on Him in our hearts by faith, with thanksgiving.
As we minister the bread to each of the people gathered, we say:
The body of Christ keep you in eternal life, and they respond with: Amen.
As we minister the cup to each of the people gathered, we say:
The blood of Christ, the cup of salvation, keep you in eternal life and they respond with: Amen.
